It's a gospel song by Mary Mary. I am about to get started on my career planning paper for University Studies class. College is a lot harder than I thought it would be. My education is funded almost entirely by scholarships so I have to maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep them. I need to work diligently to ensure this happens. I am the world's biggest procrastinator. In high school this didn't matter much but in college it is much harder to procrastinate at the level in which I have been doing it. It is a hard concept to grasp. At times I know I can get overly prideful in my Christian walk but I have to remind myself that I am a lowly sinner just like the next person. I am trying really hard to remain a good friend to a few new friends of mine..but I am struggling as to at what point do you let a friendship fizzle out. If positivity isn't coming out of a friendship should one continue it? A lot of what Brother Sam spoke about resonated strongly with me. We have to remember what the main thing, or most important things are and try hard not to let distractions overwhelm us. He illustrated this by using the story of Martha and Mary. Martha became wrapped up in everything going on around her whereas Mary already knew what the main thing was and was drawn to it. I have 6 classes, SGA senator, and a member of the Student Programming Association-Entertainment Committee. It can be easy to lose focus and remember that God is most important!

cleaning

I am cleaning up listening to a sermon on SermonAudio. I live in a dorm now and our room can easily become messy esp. without a mother to remind us to clean it :P My major is nursing but I am thinking about switching to dietetics because I love cooking and learning about nutrition. Eventually I would like to become a midwife also. I really would like to work in the public health sector but while I am here I would like to continue to cultivate skills in the domestic arena. My school has a family and consumer sciences program so I would love to take a few of those classes and I am probably going to have a minor in culinary arts. One thing that I really like about choosing a career in the fields that I like is that I can use them at home also. I have not entirely made up my mind about changing my major to dietetics. I am also considering a 3 year nursing program where I could get my RN license which is the same as I would get after 4 years. BIG decisions...

A picture of my little room..My roommate and I share a bathroom and a vanity, but we each have our own little room with a wall almost totally dividing them.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Znhuu_uJej8/TI0syXnVlGI/AAAAAAAAACE/12tvDnSXTgA/s200/IMG00419-20100912-1437.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516114362442814562" />

Spoiled Brat

I never considered myself to be a spoiled brat. However, we can all fall prey to behaving like spoiled brats as it is a part of our sinful nature. Today was my day.

My mom bought some frozen turkey burgers and put them in a pan for us to eat for supper. I live in south Louisiana so we like to put seasoning on our food. I sprinkled some seasoning on one of them just for me. Unknowningly, my mom gave that one to my brother. *Emit smoke from ears here* I went to ge get my special seasoned burger and noticed one had been removed so I wasnt sure which was which. I asked her if the one left in the pot was the one that had been on the right. She replied "No.". She had already dressed and served that one to my brother. I was ticked and I said well that was mine! She replied "How was I supposed to know...you didn't tell me??" I placed the burger from the pan onto a slice of bread and said, "Well I will take this one but if it is nasty I am throwing it in the trash!!!" She replied "No you will not! I will gladly take it!(She had not cooked one for herself)

I stormed off to the table and took a bite. It was pretty good. I thought about what I said and immediately apologized. My mom said "Why are you apologizing?" I said for the comment I made about throwing it in the trash. That was such a bratty comment." She told me not to worry about it (water under the bridge).

As humans we can easily fall prey to becoming selfish.
We need to ask God to cultivate a spirit of gratitude and thankfulness within us.

?

Heaven! I feel like I wasted my summer because I didn't do anything truly meaningful. I slept, ate, cleaned up a little, went to church, taught my Bible class and went to my part-time job. Basically, I existed. I feel like I let God down by not contributing anything BIG (for lack of a better word) to His kingdom. I know I contributed by teaching my 2's and 3's about Elijah, David and other Biblical characters but sometimes I feel like I was just going through the motions. In retrospect, I look back and see that it wasn't a summer spent on fire for Him. It was just....a summer. I went through a bad break-up and I am preparing for college ,my excuses to soothe myself don't judge me :). At the beginning of the summer I wanted to volunteer at a pregnancy crisis center, raise money for BloodWater and begin to sew pillowcase dresses for a children's clothing ministry. Now as my summer is coming to an end I realize that I have not done any of it...Eek! It's a bad feeling but I feel that God has led me to look at my goals that I had that beginning of the summer and discover what went wrong. Too many distractions. I spent too much time looking at the Word instead of living it. As I write this the Scriptures that God immediately impressed upon my mind were in the first chapter of James (NIV):
:
23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

As I venture onto a secular college campus I am grateful there are clubs in which Christians can fellowship. I know God is the one who truly holds us accountable but I think I will fare better as I enter this new season in my life (away from home, living with a friend) if I also have a friend as an accountability partner that can encourage me to stick to my goals. I am still nervous about moving away from home because I am unsure if I made the right decision..More on that later I just felt like venting.

Hospitality

The picture above is typically what comes to mind when we think of hospitality. It is the art of entertaining guests by making delicious dishes, having a pretty table setting, pushing all clutter into the closets so our guests think our home is spotless -or maybe that's just me when I have a sleepover :), along with a myriad of other things aimed at keeping our guests happy. However, hospitality is more than entertaining our guests with cutesy desserts and board games.

Hospitality is described as hospitable treatment, reception or disposition (Websters's).Today I began reading Radical Hospitality by Father Daniel Homann and Lonni Pratt. It was a reminder that our view of hospitality today is starkly different than that of the past. In Biblical times, it was considered a cultural norm to take care of the strangers and foreigners living among you. Deuteronomy 10:19 commands God's people to show hospitality because they were once foreigners in Egypt. In the New testament Romans 12:13 reinforces this by stating: "Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." This verse takes it beyond just strangers commanding us to share with god's people who are in need. Hospitality goes beyond the 4 walls of our dining rooms but it also needs to happen in our dining rooms-whether guests are present or not! We should strive to be hospitable in our everyday lives. Our sisters, aunts, the single mom who could use some help with her kids, friends invited into our homes and strangers.

An excerpt from Matthew 25:

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Boundless Summer Challenge

excerpt from the site--> "The purpose of this is to give practical examples of how we can live out our faith daily in different ways we might not always think of. She is a devout Christian and has been dubbed "Africa's Mother Theresa" due to her work with orphans. She knows firsthand what is it like to be fatherless as her own father died when she was only a month old.

In 1980, Gobena came across a child suckling at the breast of its dead mother. It changed her life forever. A man whose job was to collect the corpses in the war ravaged area told her "I am waiting for the child to die so I can pick up both bodies. I just can't bear to take the child as well while she is still alive." Can you imagine someone saying something like that?

Gobena promptly swaddled up the child and brought her to the countries capital. Thus began Gobena's work saving the lives of many starving orphans during Ethiopia's famine. She pressed on with her work even when everything around her was crashing down. Her family turned against her and gave her an ultimatum. They told her she had to choose the children or them. She chose the children. By the end of 1980, Gobena had taken in 21 children.

>>Fast forward to the present- Gobena is the founder of Ethiopia's oldest orphanage. In present day, it cares for over 700 children. She is an amazing warrior of God and I admire her for the work she does.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Source

In the beginning..

God made the seas
And the forrest filled with trees
And the mountains way up so high
And at the top He put the sky

I am trying to learn this song for the little kiddos I teach on Wednesday nightsat church. I am happy they are only 2 and 3 year old babies (or bebes as we say down here) so I will not be embarassed to sing in front of them. :) We are learning from each other. They are really helping me to learn more about patience and being organized. I am helping them to learn more about characters fom the Bible. The first of which was David. He had a meager beginning as a shepherd and later became a king. Rags to riches! Remember that God can use all of us in his Kingdom. James 3:4

James compares our tongues to rudders on ships. A rudder is very small but its positioning determines the direction of a ship. Would you steer your ship into a bunch of rocks? Another ship? I think the answer the claear answer is no. However, we seem to do this daily. We may gossip, lie, or respond quickly with anger. The Bible provides us with the tools to help us measure if what is coming out of our mouth's is good or bad. Ephesians 4:29 reads: Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 5:4 reads: Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. Matt. 12:34: You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

I really need to work on controlling my tongue. It is so easy to give into gossip and destroying others reputations when you are not surrounded by believers.

mother's day

Guess which day of the year has the highest call (telephone) volume?

Mother's Day!

Now this can be looked at in a positive and negative light.
Positive- many people are communicating with their mothers
Negative- many people they are reducing the day created to celebrate our mothers down to a simple phone call

Mother's Day (according to Wikipedia)

The United States celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May. In the 1880s and 1890s there were several attempts to establish a Mother's Day, but they didn't succeed beyond the local level. The holiday was created by Anna Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1908 as a day to honor one's mother. Jarvis wanted to accomplish her mother's dream of making a celebration for all mothers, although the idea didn't take off until she enlisted the services of wealthy Philadelphia merchant John Wanamaker. She kept promoting the holiday until President Woodrow Wilson made it an official national holiday in 1914. The holiday eventually became so highly commercialized that many, including its founder, Anna Jarvis, considered it a "Hallmark Holiday", i.e. one with an overwhelming commercial purpose. Jarvis eventually ended up opposing the holiday she had helped to create. She died in 1948, regretting what had become of her holiday. In the United States, Mother's Day remains one of the biggest days for sales of flowers, greeting cards, and the like; it is also the biggest holiday for long-distance telephone calls.

How can we bring it back to Anna Jarvis' original idea?
Create things!
What is your mom's [or as we say Momma :) ] favorite food? Get the ingredients and make it.
Take a nice photo of you and your siblings and frame it. Make a nice card. Cut some fresh flowers and make a bouquet. I am not altogether sure that this is
"By 2015, all new advanced practice nurses will need to have a DNP for certification. Those of us in practice before that date will not be required to get the degree; we will be grandfathered in."

I thought midwifery would be really great field but their aren't any specialty schools near my home. I would have to get my BSN, then my MSN (in another state) and now a DNP. It is overwhelming to think about especially since I only wanted a 4 year degree. I really thought that I could bless God's kingdom with a nursing and midwifery degree especially on mission trips. I want to get a degree that I can use to bless my family and God's kingdom so I am thinking of hospitality, Spanish, education, L&D nurse (instead of midwife), and dietitian amongst many other options. In Philippians 4:6 we are commanded, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” I am really trying to work on this. I know God& the Word will help me to discern which path to take. I can be such a worry-wart but I know that the more I mature into my faith I will cast my cares upon HIM increasingly.

godly friendships

"The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray." Many of my friends at school are not Christians and this creates a big problem. I am by no means perfect but these friendships are not positive and only drag me down and tempt me. They say nasty things to me at times and contibute to my desire to gossip. They curse, get drunk and go out to clubs. The more I hear about these things the more they seem appealing but the Bible says "Do not give the devil a foothold." (Eph 4:27) The Bible also says "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers.. (2 Cor 6:14) Alas, I am nearing the end of my senior year so I almost feel like it is too late. How can I find new friends right before I graduate? I think the best solution for me is to hang out with my friends in the youth group more. I want to surround myself with my Christian friends. They help me to stay focused on God and our conversations are more constructive. We are all part of the same body and have the same morals and ideals. As humans we sometimes tend to follow a herd mentality-which is that we base our decisions off of the actions of others. Researchers determined that it only takes a minority of just five per cent to influence a crowd’s direction – and that the other 95 per cent follow blindly.* Which way do you want to be led? Towards Christ or away from Him?

"For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they that find it" (Matt 7:14)

“...for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” (Luke 13:24)

Flirty Aprons GUEST GIVEAWAY!!!!

Flirty Aprons GUEST GIVEAWAY!!!!

Career Clusters

My college orientation is March 31st. I have to choose all of my classes for my first semester. The only problem is I do not know what I want to major in. My major as of now is nursing with the intent of eventually becoming a midwife..but I am not sure?? I am stuck between a family and consumer sciences degree in early intervention(birth to 5) education and nursing/midwifery. I think a FACS degree would help me in the future especially when I (God willing) have a family. I would love to home school and it also incorporates classes about interior design and nutrition. Nursing/Midwifery is also very exciting to me. I know I would love helping mothers during that very special times in there lives. I would love to do some mission work using a degree like this. My dad really wants me to become a registered nurse but I am not so sure. I think the FACS degree would benefit me in being a wife and mother...but so would nursing. All of these thoughts got me thinking about which careers are biblical and which aren't. I came across an article that listed careers unsuitable for Christians including:

bartender

military service

police work or guard duty

retail stores

wholesale stores

any merchandising of goods with prices marked up and re-sold

real estate sales

banking

finance companies

mortgage companies or brokers

credit card companies

stock brokers

financial investment advisors

insurance companies

gambling casinos, lotteries, etc.

lawyers

accountants

martial arts, including judo, karate, etc.

"Christian" bookstores

secular bookstores

grocery stores

any retail store or wholesale store in which products sold are manufactured by some other entity

day care center for children

beauty salons

para-church organizations

http://www.bethelministries.com/jobs.htm

The list continues and has many Scriptures. I am not sure what to make of it but it really made me think. Many of us do not consider what the Bible says when choosing a career. I pray that both options I am considering are pleasing to HIM and that HE will guide me towards the best decision.

Swimwear

Warmer months are approaching..so a swimsuit is a great staple to have. Although I cannot swim, I happen to love water parks and being in the water. One big problem is the lack of modesty in mot swimwear. However, I personally do not like the look and style of swimsuits shaped like burlap sacks. Here are a few options with varying degrees of modesty that I think most people would feel comfortable in and will fit in with others comfortably:

HydroChic.com-Also has skorts and pants $$

VeiledByDesign.com-Also has long sleeves and head coverings $

Modestkini.com-Also has pants, full sleeves and headcovering $$

Primomoda.com-All styles similar to this one (hijab is not connected) $$$

Intro

I am Schy. Sch like school not shh! I am an 18 year old Creole young lady and a soon-to-be high school graduate. I am going to college 2 hours away from home in the fall..and I am still not sure if that is a great decision. I am a fairly conservative Christian. I am still a "baby" in Christ's eyes as I have only been baptized for a little over a year.My sister is 11 and my brother is 6. My mom is the same religion as I whereas my Dad is Catholic. I am not new to blogging but I am new to blogging about my faith. I know I am all over the place but I am writing as I think :) My favorite music artists are: Brandon Heath, Matthew West, Jars of Clay +more. My favorite TV shows are: 19 and Counting, House, & Real Housewives. I have recently learned the value of modesty in dress, speech & other aspects of life. I am steadily transforming my wardrobe to make it more modest even though my family thinks I am crazy for doing so. I love, love, loveee to bake. I have been following many Christian blogs for a while now but finally decided to make my own about my own spiritual walk. Enough for now.
